It’s easy to stick to the well-known stops in Door County. Every now and then, though, you stumble across a place that makes you wonder how you hadn’t heard about it sooner. That’s exactly how we felt when we spent an evening at The Fiddler’s Farm outside Sturgeon Bay. Before we even parked, someone rode out on horseback to guide us in, and that was only the beginning of a memorable night.
What Is The Fiddler’s Farm in Door County?
The Fiddler’s Farm is a live music venue built inside a barn that has stood for more than a century. The whole idea is a Branson style variety show, but planted firmly in Door County soil. Think classic country, bluegrass, western swing, and every so often an Irish jig thrown in for good measure, all performed live by musicians who clearly grew up loving this stuff.
Shows run about 90 minutes and take place on Saturdays from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with doors opening an hour before showtime. Tickets run twenty dollars a person, and kids under 10 get in free, which matters when you are figuring out a family budget for the evening. Carry-ins are welcome, well behaved leashed dogs are welcome, and water and soda are available if you forget to bring your own.
Live Music at The Fiddler’s Farm
Hana Dumas is a two time Wisconsin State Fiddle Champion and one of the main fiddlers you will hear at the Farm. Nick Dumas, part of the family behind the Farm, is a three time IBMA award winner and Grammy nominee who spent four years as mandolin player for the nationally touring bluegrass band Special Consensus before launching his own group, Nick Dumas and Branchline, with albums out on Nashville’s Skyline Records. Family and friends round out the lineup on any given night.
Across a show you will hear mandolin, fiddle, guitar, and steel guitar all trading the lead, each player clearly at home on their instrument. What we did not expect was how much we would laugh. The banter between songs is easy and unscripted, and it is clear this group loves making music together as much as they love sharing it. Classic country, bluegrass, western swing, and the occasional Irish jig all get their turn, and it never feels like a set list going through the motions.
Why We Loved This Rustic Barn Music Venue
Door County has no shortage of beautiful settings, but a rustic barn live music venue is still a rare find, and The Fiddler’s Farm does it well.
The barn has stood on this farm for more than a century and has been lovingly restored rather than dressed up to look rustic. It still feels like a working barn, one that happens to host some of the best musicians in the state. Add in rolling farmland, horses in the pasture, and that late summer Door County light coming through the doors as the show gets going, and the setting becomes part of the performance rather than just a backdrop for it.

A show this good deserves dinner to go with it, and The Fiddler’s Farm has that covered too.
On-site, the Burger Shack serves up farm to table burgers made with local beef, including a few signature builds worth trying if they are on the menu that night. Grab a bag of chips or a side salad, a cold drink, and you have got dinner and a show without ever leaving the property.
Don’t Skip the Wagon Ride
Between sets, or before the music starts, the Farm also offers a free wagon ride around the grounds. It is a small touch, but it is the kind of thing that turns a concert into an evening out, and the kids will probably ask to do it twice.
